Cynthia L. Haven is a Stanford-affiliated scholar and the author of Evolution of Desire: A Life of René Girard, named Distinguished Academic Title by CHOICE Magazine, and Czesław Miłosz: A California Life. Her All Desire for Desire for Being: Essential Writings of René Girard was published this year by Penguin Classics in London. She has been a visiting writer and scholar at Stanford’s Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages and a Milena Jesenská Journalism Fellow with the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in Vienna.
